Sales Policy and Process

Sales Policy

This information is provided to help buyers understand our sales process and policies.

References within our Sales Policy and Process to “Abiding Acres,” “us,” “our,” “we,” or “the farm,” refer to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats; references to “you,” “your,” or “buyer” refer to the goat buyer.

Our Policies and Process are subject to change without notice.

Purpose

This policy is intended to protect you, our goats and Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. If you have any questions regarding these, feel free to contact us directly.

All Sales are Final

All goat sales are final and we cannot accept returned goats. We cannot control the environment, exposures or conditions of goats after they leave the farm, so for the safety of our remaining herd, we are unable to receive a returned goat.

No Guarantees

We make every effort to ensure any goat leaving our farm is healthy, thriving, and is a good representation of Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. However, we make no guarantees regarding our goats, including, but not exclusively:

  • Milk production
  • Presence of desired genetic traits
  • Show quality
  • Future health and lifespan

Further, if a doe is sold as a bred, it shall be understood and agreed to by both buyer and seller that the doe was exposed to a buck but that this does not guarantee that the breeding was successful or that goat will carry her offspring to term.

Buyer-Canceled Orders

We are unable to provide refunds on buyer-canceled orders. If a buyer cancels an order, the buyer forfeits all funds paid to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. A goat is not bought until it has been paid for in full.

Seller-Canceled Orders

Abiding Acres Dairy Goats reserves the right to cancel any order, with or without cause, by refunding to the potential buyer the full amount paid in deposit to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats.

In the rare circumstance that a reserved goat passes away or is found to have a disqualifying fault while residing at Abiding Acres, we will work with the buyer to do one of the following:

  • Transfer the deposit to reserve another goat from this year
  • Transfer the deposit to reserve a goat from a future year
  • Refund the deposit

Sales Process

Purpose

We have provided this information to simplify our sales process and to protect the interests of our buyers, our goats, and our farm. We will work to accommodate reasonable requests and we understand that extenuating circumstances may occur. We reserve the right to make exceptions to this process in favor of the buyer, when appropriate and feasible. If you have questions, feel free to contact us. Click below for more information about each stage in our sales process:

Join the wait list

To join the wait list, contact us using the online Wait List. We will record all wait list requests we receive in the order in which we receive them. We will match requests with kids that meet each specific request. We cannot accept deposits for unborn kids, and we will only accept deposits for born kids when they are at least 24 hours old and thriving. We do give preference to farms participating in performance programs, such as milk testing, linear appraisals, and goat shows. When a kid is born that is a match for a request, we will inform the first person on the list whose request is a match. This person has 48 hours from the time the message is sent to decide to purchase or to decline this goat. If the potential buyer chooses to buy the goat, the next step will be to make a reservation and send a deposit. If they decline the goat or do not respond within 48 hours, we will contact the next person on the list whose request is a good match for the goat. Joining our wait list does not guarantee you a goat. We reserve the right to retain any or all goats and to approve or deny a sale as we consider to be appropriate. Additionally, we cannot guarantee that a kid will be born that is an exact match for all characteristics you have requested, but we will diligently attempt to make the best matches possible.

Receive Updates on Reserved Goats

Pick Up Your Goat

Timeframes

Pickup timeframes vary between bottle kids, weaned kids, and adult goats. It is expected that goats will be picked up within these timeframes unless other arrangements are agreed to by buyer and seller the time of reservation.

Bottle Kids

Bottle kids are available for pickup after they are 2 weeks old, thriving, and feeding well from the bottle or lambar. Unless other arrangements are agreed to at the time of reservation, bottle kids must be picked up within the following timeframes:
If reservation is made: Then pickup must occur:
Within the first 2 weeks of kid’s life By week 4 of kid’s life.
After 2 weeks of age but before weaning is complete Within 2 weeks of reservation being made.
If a reservation was made to pick up a bottle kid, but pickup does not occur within the 2-week period, and no alternative pickup arrangements have been agreed to, the order is considered to be canceled by the buyer and the buyer forfeits all funds sent to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. The goat may be retained by the farm or sold to another buyer. If a reservation was made to pick up a bottle kid but was then changed at the request of the buyer to an at-weaning pickup, the Weaned Kid deposit applies and an additional deposit will be required at the time the change is made (the difference between 50% of the sale price of the goat and the original $100 deposit). If this deposit is not received within 24 hours of the time of the reservation change, the order is considered to be canceled by the and the buyer forfeits all funds sent to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. The goat may be retained by the farm or sold to another buyer. Example: 50% of goat’s listed sale price: $350 ($700 sale price) Original deposit paid for bottle kid: − $100 Additional deposit required: $250

Weaned Kids

Weaned kids must be picked up by their weaning date, which varies by breed:
  • Nubians are available when they reach 12 weeks of age and are thriving.
  • Nigerian Dwarfs are available when they reach 8 weeks of age and are thriving.
When we confirm your reservation, we will provide you with a targeted weaning date, based on the timelines above. If pickup does not occur by the weaning date and no alternative pickup arrangements have been agreed to, the sale is considered to be canceled by the buyer and the buyer forfeits all funds sent to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. The goat may be retained by the farm or sold to another buyer. If alternative pickup arrangements are agreed to, a $3.00 per-day boarding fee will be added to the sale price of the goat for each day beyond weaning, to be paid at or before pickup. If the pickup still has not occurred 2 weeks after weaning and no additional arrangements have been agreed to, the order is considered to be canceled by the buyer and the buyer forfeits all funds sent to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. The goat may be retained by the farm or sold to another buyer.

Adult Goats

Adult goats must be picked up within 2 weeks of reservation unless other arrangements are agreed to at the time of reservation. If the reserved goat is not picked up within the 2-week time period, the order is considered canceled by the buyer and the buyer forfeits all funds sent to Abiding Acres Dairy Goats. The goat may be retained by the farm or sold to another buyer.

Payment

Final payment is due at or before pick up. The final payment includes the remaining balance of the purchase price plus any applicable boarding fees or expenses related to buyer-requested testing or travel certificates. We accept Venmo, PayPal, and cash. For payment instructions, see the Make a Deposit and Final Payment section.

Travel Certificates and Special Requests

We can accommodate requests for travel certificates, and in most cases, buyer-requested veterinary testing. The cost of these services is due at the time the services are rendered.

Arrangements

It is the buyer’s responsibility to arrange for pickup of the goat within the prescribed timeframes and to communicate to us the day and time of arrival. Please provide a minimum notice of 48-hours to allow us to coordinate our schedules and the pickup times of other buyers. Preferred pickup times are between 9 AM and 4 PM Central.

Transports

We are willing to drive, at our cost, to meet a reputable livestock ground transport within 25 miles of our farm. For distances greater than 25 miles but still within a reasonable driving distance we can arrange a per-mile (round trip) additional fee to meet the transport. This fee is due before the day of transport. Before a goat is loaded into a transport trailer, the final goat price must be sent by buyer and received by the seller. We reserve the right to refuse to send a goat with a transporter if we deem the conditions within the trailer or vehicle to be unsafe. If this occurs, we will contact the buyers, explain our concerns, and allow the buyer to make other arrangements for transport. Occasionally, we may be able to provide transport for (or meet) buyer within a reasonable driving distance for an additional fee which will be calculated on a case-by-case basis. This fee is due before the day of transport.

Biosecurity at Pickup

Biosecurity is important for the health of our herd and the health of our customers’ herds. Because of this, we are unable to accommodate requests to enter goat pastures or pens at pickup times (but viewing from the fence is encouraged!). Before pickup we will arrange with you a neutral location on the farm and will bring the goat to your vehicle or trailer. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
